Overview
Atlanta, also known as, "Hotlanta", "The A-T-L", "The New York of the South", "The Capital of the New South", has a unique identity all its own. It is a region of contrasts, blending old with new, traditions with innovations. Atlanta reveres its southern culture and heritage while it exuberantly embraces the future and newcomers. It is a region of winding, tree-lined streets and of soaring skyscrapers; of graceful mansions from a bygone era and trendy loft condominiums; of small, charming towns and of master-planned communities and large developments. Considered the economic capital of the Southeast, many Fortune 500 companies have national or regional offices here, The Home Depot, UPS, Coca-Cola, and Delta Airlines, to name a few.Atlanta was ranked 10th largest metropolitan area in the United States according to the 2000 census with 3.5 million people. By 2002 the population had increased to 4.2 million and continues to grow. With its diverse and well educated population, the city ranks 20th in the proportion of the population who possess at least a bachelor's degree a distinction that puts Atlanta over Los Angeles and New York. The greater Atlanta region is truly international, with nearly 1,000 foreign-based firms. More than 35 nations have consulates or trade offices in Atlanta. Atlanta is rich in history, its origin dates back to 1782. Atlanta is a special place, and there are a number of reasons why you should make Atlanta home. Source: Atlanta A City of New Beginnings – Harry Norman Realtors© 2004
