Forsyth County Overview (printable)

From the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the banks of the Chattahoochee River, from Lake Lanier to Poole's Mill Covered Bridge, from the lowest tax rate in the region to some of its most luxurious communities, there is something for everyone in Forsyth County. Georgia 400 gives Forsyth County residents easy access to Atlanta and beyond.

Forsyth County, one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, offers homebuyers rural charm with upscale living. The county boasts the lowest tax rate in metro Atlanta, excellent schools, abundant recreational facilities and breathtaking scenery.

The county extends from the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains on the north to the banks of the Chattahoochee River on the south and includes more than 300 miles of shoreline along Lake Sydney Lanier. Once a largely agrarian area dotted with chicken farms and horse farms, Forsyth County is now home to more than 25 business parks, dozens of new resort-style communities, upscale restaurants and excellent shopping. Georgia 400 intersects the county, providing convenient access to all amenities of downtown Atlanta. The Cherokee Indians were the first inhabitants of what is now Forsyth County. After gold was discovered in the Blue Ridge Mountains, settlers moved into the area and named their county after statesman John Forsyth.

The population stayed small until the 1950's when the U.S. Corps of Engineers completed Lake Sidney Lanier, a popular spot for second homes and vacationers. In the early 1990's, developers discovered that the county's rolling landscape and beautiful scenery were the perfect spots for master planned golf communities and Forsyth County's phenomenal growth began.
