From the Fernbank Museum of Natural History to the IMAX® theater, from Stone Mountain to the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, from Little Five Points to the Dekalb History Complex, Dekalb County has something to offer everyone. The city of Atlanta extends into Dekalb providing all the convenience of the big city while Dekalb's quaint bedroom communities offer small-town life in the city.
Once Atlanta's "bedroom community,' close-in Dekalb County now has an even blend of jobs and housing. The country is home to a large professional population, a wealth of educational institutions, top quality healthcare facilities and a wide range of arts and cultural activities.
Dekalb County has extensive Interstate, state, and U.S. highways. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transport Authority (MARTA-www.itsmarta.com) operates nine rail stations and more than 60 bus routes in the county. In addition to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Dekalb County is served by Peachtree-Dekalb Airport, one of the area's largest general aviation airports. The county's neighborhoods are lush and green, thanks in part to the county's tree-protection ordinance and a county initiative to preserve more than 2,000 acres of green space.
